About the Role:
The Branding & Sourcing legal group within GLCR is looking for a senior attorney to join as Assistant General Counsel - Data Licensing Attorney, focusing on market data licensing and other strategic sourcing contracts. This role is for a skilled negotiator and subject matter expert on legal issues related to data usage in the financial services area, with experience in representing investments advisory and asset management business and other multinational companies’ purchasing departments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an innovative approach and be able to work in an independent manner among a group of high performing professionals. The Assistant General Counsel - Data Licensing Attorney will work on projects that are time-sensitive, important to senior management, highly visible inside and outside of the company, and key to AIG’s business plans.
This position reports to the Chief Branding & Sourcing Counsel. Specific duties will include:
Managing, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts for data licensing, consulting services, outsourcing arrangements, and other corporate purchasing agreements.
Advising senior executives on legal issues related to contracts and business strategy.
Working closely with AIG attorneys around the world to address legal, regulatory and compliance issues of all types related to vendor management, data usage, licensing issues, and other matters supported by the group.
Providing support on international sourcing agreements, working closely with counterparts in the AIG GLCR organization in the EU, the UK, and Asia.
Collaborating with AIG attorneys specializing in privacy, intellectual property, cybersecurity, IT transactions, and insurance law to provide seamless, high-quality service to our clients.
Assisting with the implementation of AIG policies and guidelines associated with purchasing of data, content, and services.
Juris Doctor; with U.S. state bar admission.
Ideally 7 or more years of legal experience with a law firm and/or in-house.
Experience with market data licensing (Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, Fitch, etc.), including uses of market data in regulated financial services environments.
Demonstrated experience leading deals and closing high-dollar, high-risk agreements within aggressive timeframes.
Solid understanding of the current state of data privacy regulations and risks, and a practical approach to ensuring compliance with applicable laws and company standards.
Familiarity with U.S. and international intellectual property laws, and with U.S. and international privacy laws including GDPR, CCPA, NYDFS, Gramm-Leach-Bliley and HIPAA.
Ability to develop and manage relationships with multiple clients
Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments in a fast paced environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with peers and internal clients across a global organization as well as independently (including remotely).
Experience in the financial/investment management services industry is a plus.
Location & Travel:
The Branding & Sourcing legal group is based in New York, NY. This position will be remote during the current COVID-19 pandemic, then located in the group’s Manhattan office.
