Position Description: Reporting directly to founder and CEO, Eva Moskowitz, the General Counsel is a member of the Executive Leadership team, and is responsible for a range of crucial areas, including contract management, interpretation of organization policies and procedures, negotiation strategies, regulatory compliance and Board relations. The successful candidate will be a deeply experienced in-house counsel and or general counsel, a thoughtful, and inspiring leader and an exceptional people leader who has (for a substantial part of their career) a track record of extraordinary success in excellent organizations.
Company: Founded in 2006, Success Academy Charter Schools is the largest and highest-performing free, public charter school network in New York City. Success Academy operates 47 schools serving 20,000 students in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.
Experience: At least fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in a corporation, law firm, or non-profit organization. A broad based, generalist background and experience in the following areas: commercial contracts, transactions and financings, leases/real estate, intellectual property, trademark law, tax, internal investigations, ethics, non-profit governance, compliance, risk analysis, pre-litigation and litigation counseling and management, HR, employment law, insurance matters, and non-profit law.
Bar: Must be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and either become a member of the New York bar or register as in-house counsel in New York.
