The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is the world's largest organization serving the professional and business interests of attorneys who practice in the legal departments of corporations, associations, nonprofits and other private-sector organizations around the globe.
The successful candidate in this Director level position will be responsible for providing legal services, support and guidance to the enterprise, its subsidiaries and affiliates. The candidate will also be responsible for the day to day management of various types of litigation and other disputes involving the enterprise. The candidate will provide support in developing strategies, tactics and procedures regarding the prevention, evaluation, defense/prosecution and resolution of such disputes. In addition, this candidate will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating vendor contracts. The candidate may from time to time also be assigned ad hoc legal matters relating to diverse fields of law and will also provide legal advice and counsel to all levels of company leadership.
Job duties include but are not limited to: • Analyze disputed cases, determine the legal position of the organization, respond to threatening or demand letters, when appropriate • Manage disputes, including all aspects of threatened or actual litigation • Manage outside counsel who defend or prosecute litigation on behalf of the organization • Negotiate compromised settlements within the authority limits set by Deputy General Counsel • Manage responses and production of documents to non-party subpoenas. • Review and draft legal documents, including contracts • Negotiate contract terms with vendors and their counsel • Manage other legal assignments that may involve diverse fields of law
Job Requirements: • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school with a strong academic record and less than 5 years of experience • Admission to at least one state bar. If bar admission is in a state other than Florida, then the ability to be certified in Florida as Authorized House Counsel • General knowledge of health insurance laws, regulations and compliance standards • General knowledge of corporate and commercial law • Demonstrated experience in handling litigation and negotiating contracts • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills • Demonstrated initiative and self-starter • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and develop and maintain strong interpersonal relationships at all levels throughout the organization • Ability to thrive in an uncertain and ambiguous environment
