In-House Exclusive – Privacy Counsel

G&S has been exclusively engaged by our client, a premier on-line education partner for colleges and universities, to assist in its search for a Privacy Counsel to help build and manage the company’s global privacy program. You will handle sophisticated domestic and international privacy/data security matters, as part of a rapidly expanding and highly collegial privacy team based in the company’s suburban Maryland headquarters and work closely with the Associate General Counsel for Privacy and Chief Privacy Officer (both of whom were placed by G&S).

Primary Responsibilities: Defining, maintaining and evaluating compliance with the company’s privacy program; building and improving the privacy program by establishing privacy compliance requirements that satisfy state, federal and global regulations; developing, implementing and training on a company incident response plan; applying leading practices related to the retention and collection of data; creating and maintaining appropriate business records reflecting products that support the client’s privacy and data use infrastructure; and serving as a general resource on privacy, data protection and data flow legal issues.

Qualified candidates must have between 3-5 years of experience at a private law firm and/or an in-house legal department, with a focus on privacy, data protection and/or cybersecurity. You should have a background in consumer protection, compliance and risk management.  CIPP/US certification is a plus.
