The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is the world's largest organization serving the professional and business interests of attorneys who practice in the legal departments of corporations, associations, nonprofits and other private-sector organizations around the globe.
Reporting into the General Counsel, as the Head of Legal for the Defense Business Line, this is a global role leading a team of lawyers in multiple jurisdictions and providing legal advice to a wide range of stakeholders as part of the Defense leadership team. This role will be the key advisor on business strategy decisions such as new ventures, the Defense BL’s required global footprint and M&A, and managing all aspects of front end customer and commercial contracts including disputes. In addition, the role will have responsibility for Business Line export control and other compliance issues.
Areas of responsibility will include:
Management of Defense Airframe legal and compliance teams
Contracting with the Department of Defense
Commercial Contracts and Disputes
Responsibilities may also include advising and/or supervising on any of the following areas:
Functional – incl. reporting, people management, stakeholder management, training, policies and processes, best practice sharing, budget management
A juris doctor (JD) and an applicable state license to practice law are required
10+ years of experience practicing as a qualified lawyer within the US
1+ years of training at a recognised top tier law firm
Must have the ability to obtain a Secret DOD clearance.
Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements.
In depth experience of the defense sector , including government contracting and US and/or UK defense export control requirements
An Active DOD secret clearance is strongly preferred
Proven track record in managing multi-national teams
Proven track record in advising on a range of highly complex technical legal and compliance issues
Ability to identify, focus and prioritise key legal/compliance matters
Offer pragmatic, commercially focussed advice
Identify, work with and influence key internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate within business and functions
Integrity and courage; challenge effectively; deliver tough messages
Work efficiently and finish tasks; dynamic and resilient but demonstrate work/life balance
Delegate, inform and know when to ask for help
Understand how technology is changing our industry and what we can contribute to the strategy/liberate value of IP of the business
Adapt and succeed against a background of change/uncertainty
Ability to travel 50% or more.
