As a member of the Litigation Group, this attorney will manage and advise on non-medical malpractice litigation matters. The Senior Counsel will have a broad litigation practice supporting Kaiser Permanente’s operations as an integrated delivery system in California and the eight other jurisdictions where Kaiser Permanente operates. In light of increasing healthcare regulation and enforcement, Kaiser Permanente particularly welcomes applications from candidates with expertise in managing government investigations and enforcement actions, class actions, white collar matters, and other high-risk or high-profile litigation.
Advise complex organizations within KP enterprise-wide, across multiple legal business entities.
Advise Health Plan & Hospitals leadership regarding False Claims Act matters, government investigations, complex business disputes, managed care litigation, privacy lawsuits, class actions, and high-profile cases with potentially significant reputational and business impact.
Practice also may include some management of single-plaintiff employment litigation matters.
A minimum of 8+ years of complex litigation experience (excluding workers’ compensation and medical malpractice), preferably including prosecution or defense of False Claims Act cases and/or other criminal claims, trial experience, and class action experience.
Demonstrated qualities consistent with the Department’s preferred operating style, i.e., mutual respect, fairness, honesty, ethical behavior, independent, creative thinking while operating as a team member.
Excellent interpersonal skills with clients, co-workers, and subordinates.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in most of all of the above-referenced areas.
Applicable bar license or willingness to obtain such license within two years.
Excellent academic and professional qualifications.
Substantial litigation experience in prosecuting or defending major healthcare clients in False Claims Act cases and/or similar civil or criminal matters.
Substantial complex litigation experience in the health law field (excluding workers’ compensation and medical malpractice).
Significant class action experience.
Big law firm training a plus.
