Alexion is seeking a highly qualified attorney to build and lead a Legal Contracts Center of Excellence. The attorney in this position will oversee the professionals responsible for contracting in Alexion’s US organization and will have global responsibility for the contracting processes and systems. The position offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic Legal Department, to lead a critical function within that department, and to support a growing global business.
Lead and direct a team of US-based contract professionals in drafting, negotiating and advising clients on the diversity of agreements common to a global biopharmaceutical company.
Develop, update and maintain agreement templates and playbooks in the US and globally for negotiating agreements
Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to develop and implement systems, processes and policies for managing contracts and contract workflow
Drive efficient performance in our contracting operation; establish KPI’s and metrics for contracting globally
Draft, negotiate and advise clients on complex agreements
Ensure alignment of our contract provisions with the company’s business priorities, policies and procedures
Ensure that our contracts comply with all applicable laws, regulations and company policies
Train business partners on contract process and contractual requirements
Partner with stakeholders across the business to support the achievement of their business goals through effective contracting
Exercise excellent judgment in rendering clear, concise, actionable and business savvy legal guidance
Act as a liaison between internal and external business partners to facilitate contract execution and performance
Undertake special projects as requested
At least 6-8 years of contract experience supporting life science companies, preferably with in-house experience in a multinational company with high contract volume
Demonstrated success in a contracts management function
Success implementing and continuous improvement of contract system/platform
Deep knowledge of contract law, systems and processes
Competence to independently identify, analyze and render legal advice on complex contract issues
Demonstrated ability to develop pragmatic, business-centric approaches for managing contract risk
Strong leadership skills with experience aligning with cross-functional stakeholders
People management experience
Strong change management skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple commitments and supervise complex projects involving cross-functional participants
Proven record of drafting and negotiating complex transaction agreements
Experience with clinical research a plus
Passion and commitment to the practice of law
Proven record of high integrity
J.D. or L.L.M. degree from an ABA-accredited law school
