TCS Education System is hiring an Assistant General Counsel to join the Office of the General Counsel (“OGC”).
The Assistant General Counsel will report to the General Counsel and work closely with the OGC team members to provide legal, compliance and regulatory counsel and guidance to the TCS Education System office and its affiliated institutions.
The Assistant General Counsel serves as an advisor offering legal guidance related to risk management and mitigation, operational matters, and best practices for compliance with the multiple levels of laws and regulations that govern nonprofit higher education institutions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Consult with and advise clients on appropriate legal requirements and risks related to privacy, security and information management.
Provide guidance and counsel on IP matters, including guidance on marketing, advertising and claim substantiation and participate in the development of IP policies.
Support clients’ needs with respect to insurance coverage matters including handling of claims and understanding of coverage program and policy provisions. Manage relationship with insurance brokers. Support OGC team members with insurance matters as they arise through contracting processes.
Provide risk mitigation advice and counsel as needed on a broad range of regulatory and legal matters related to compliance with U.S. Department of Education requirements for postsecondary institutions and student aid programs, accreditation standards, and federal and state higher education laws and regulations.
Perform other related duties as assigned by General Counsel.

Ability to navigate a cross-matrixed organization and work collaboratively with multiple constituents and a willingness to complete work tasks outside of your immediate job responsibilities, as needed.
Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communications skills, including the ability to advise and influence a broad spectrum of constituents at all levels.
Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects in different areas, independently and simultaneously.
Strong relationship building and leadership skills.
J.D. and licensed or eligible to be licensed in the state of Illinois.
4-6 years of experience with significant responsibility for handling workload with minimum supervision.
Combined experience in law firm and in-house legal experience preferred.
Expertise in advising clients with respect to cyber, data privacy and IP issues required.
Ability to handle insurance coverage claims and understand policy programs required.
Experience in general corporate law and international business transactions preferred.
Higher Education law experience preferred.
Ability to work some evenings/weekends and travel as needed
