Position: The Counsel, Intellectual Property will be responsible for drafting and prosecution global patent portfolio in immunology and cell therapy areas; conducting freedom to operate and patentability assessment; reviewing and negotiating the IP provisions in agreements; providing IP support to a broad range of groups including Manufacturing, Research and Development, Alliance Management and Corporate Development; working collaboratively with the legal department and cross-functional groups at Gilead’s headquarters in Foster City, CA and at affiliates and subsidiaries around the globe.
Company: Kite, a Gilead Company, is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel cancer immunotherapy products designed to harness the power of a patient’s own immune system to selectively target and kill cancer cells. Our core technology involves the genetic engineering of T cells, or white blood cells, to express either chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) or T cell receptors (TCRs) for the treatment of advanced solid and hematological malignancies.
Experience: Minimum 7 years of industry and/or law firm experience. Substantial experience drafting and prosecuting patents for the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries, as well as issuing patentability and freedom to operate opinions. PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Life Science or related sciences preferred. License to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. state, and qualification to practice law as an in-house lawyer in California. USPTO certification required.
Location: Santa Monica, CA
