Our Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Counsel to join our growing legal team in our Worcester, MA office.
The successful candidate will provide legal counsel to one or more departments or operating units, including strategic sourcing, technology, agency management, corporate finance, field operations, marketing and other operational functions. The individual may perform special legal assignments independently, and must demonstrate sound legal judgment, experience and reasoning. Insurance experience is not required, but a desire and ability to develop a solid understanding of the company’s operations and priorities, to complement the effectiveness of the role, is expected.
This is a Full-time, Exempt role.
Provides legal services to one or more departments or operating units, including the review, editing, drafting and negotiation of contracts in support of business lines, finance, agency management, real estate, technology and strategic sourcing teams.
Contributes to developing and maintaining ongoing relationships and accountability for the unit(s) being served.
Counsels management, as appropriate, with oversight of more senior counsel.
May be responsible for handling major legal tasks and projects involving complex legal, business and factual issues for which sound legal judgment, experience, and independent reasoning is required.
Evaluates factual information, and provides research, counsel, and guidance on legal questions or issues.
Prepares contracts, memoranda and other legal documents. Maintains business partner contact to receive assignments, render opinions, and consult and advise; some matters handled with limited supervision or consultation depending on experience level.
Juris Doctorate required with 6-12 years of experience, with at least 3 years of experience at a sophisticated law firm with a corporate practice, including contract drafting, is preferred. In-house experience with a large corporation is a plus.
Candidate must be licensed to practice law and in good standing.

Is viewed as an internal resource capable of practically applying technical expertise to real business problems and/or opportunities.
Continues to develop in-depth knowledge and functional expertise in select professional disciplines.
Surfaces problems and issues before projects become derailed.
Addresses business partner needs by involving the right people (resources) at the right time, understanding the ultimate objectives, being responsive and developing more creative solutions.
Excellent written and oral communication, contract drafting and editing, and negotiation skills.
Strong analytical ability, critical and strategic thinking skills and attention to detail and project management skills to ensure appropriate execution.

Though not required, experience with property & casualty independent agency channel distribution matters, or a demonstrated capability to develop an expertise in comparable topics, is a significant plus.

Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week, as warranted.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
Ability to travel, if necessary.
Ability to work on-site as needed.
Ability to use a computer and other standard office equipment, and function in an office setting.
