Overview: eGenesis, Inc. is seeking a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property to join eGenesis’s legal team and play a leadership role in a highly innovative and early stage biotechnology company. Reporting directly to the Chief Business Officer and General Counsel and collaborating with business executives and scientists, the Counsel will be responsible for managing a broad range of intellectual property matters including patent portfolio development, strategy and management, counseling senior business leaders and the research and development organization, managing IP disputes, and handling IP competitive intelligence and due diligence in support of business transactions. The Counsel will also review, draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including confidentiality, consulting, IT, commercial, research, and other service agreements. This position is based in the Company’s Cambridge, MA headquarters.
Company: Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, eGenesis is a private development-stage gene editing and genome engineering company committed to the development of safe and effective human transplantable organs, tissues, and cells to address the global organ crisis. eGenesis’ goal is to make available safe and reliable xeno organs, tissues, and cells to patients in need and advance the field of transplantation. eGenesis uses gene editing technology such as CRISPR to directly address the key virology and immunology hurdles that have impeded xenotransplantation to date. eGenesis is advancing an initial product toward the clinic for kidney transplant, with the longer-term potential of addressing a broader organ recipient population and expanding the applicability of xenotransplantation into other areas such as cell therapy.
Compensation: A highly competitive compensation package will be offered for this position consistent with the candidate’s level of experience.
Experience: The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5+ years of meaningful legal experience prosecuting patents and advising life science companies on IP-related matters, with an advanced degree in biology, molecular or cell biology, immunology, genetics, or a related discipline. A Ph.D. is strongly preferred. An undergraduate degree and significant work experience in a relevant discipline may be considered. The ideal candidate will have 5-10+ years of patent drafting, prosecuting, and client counseling for a law firm and/or corporate law department in the fields of biology, molecular or cell biology, immunology, genetics, and/or gene editing technologies. Research or technical experience in one of these or other cutting-edge fields is highly preferred.
Relocation: Yes, national search but local candidates are preferred.
