The Global Legal and Compliance Department is charged with day-to-day oversight and coordination of the Firm’s compliance with core regulatory requirements covering all businesses including Institutional Sales and Trading (fixed income, commodities, equities), Investment Banking, Research, Investment Management and the Infrastructure Divisions.
Shared Services Compliance (“SSC”) provides globally consistent compliance coverage for Operations (including trade and transaction reporting), Finance, Outsourcing and Vendor Management, Recordkeeping and Privacy. SSC is also responsible for Registrations and Regulatory Inquiries and the coordination of Compliance GIC functions.
Maintain the Compliance Privacy Program and Enhance and the program as it relates to: training, testing, policies/procedures and monitoring
Collaborate with Operational Risk, Technology, Legal, and Business Unit Risk to ensure Firm compliance with data protection and privacy regulations
Monitor the performance of the Firm Privacy Framework and provide advice and guidance on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness and comply with applicable laws and regulations
Maintain expert knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, keeping up with and advising the business on current developments
Support for Privacy related Regulatory exams and inquiries
Provide advice on guidance on business initiatives, including new products and processes, to determine whether they comply with applicable privacy laws and regulations
Exercise sound judgment to effectively assess and balance risk in the provision of compliance advice to the business
Identify trends in compliance data and proactively advise on identified internal and external risks
Preference for at least 7-10 years of broad and relevant legal experience with a law firm and/or corporate legal/compliance department, much of it spent advising on privacy, data security, and data sharing matters.
Preference for someone with strategic and/or transformational leadership experience
Robust interest and experience with technology
Ability to build Compliance privacy programs
A cross-functional collaborator who encourages and builds consensus
A team-oriented professional with a strong work-ethic who multi-tasks and prioritizes well takes initiative is capable of leading projects and who can work effectively both independently and with others
Highly motivated and independent self-starter; comfortable learning new legal areas and skills
Ability to show sound judgement even in ambiguous situations
Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, consistent follow-through
Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, advocacy and negotiation skills.
Proven track record of meeting deadlines, learning quickly, taking the initiative, working proactively, being resourceful and shouldering additional responsibility
