The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is the world's largest organization serving the professional and business interests of attorneys who practice in the legal departments of corporations, associations, nonprofits and other private-sector organizations around the globe.
Join an exciting, growing dermatology company based in Austin, TX. The Corporate Counsel is responsible for assisting the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer in managing the legal and compliance matters of Epiphany Dermatology, P.A. and its subsidiaries, 49 physician practice locations in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Corporate Counsel is a pro-active attorney with comprehensive and relevant healthcare in-house legal experience, providing sound legal advice and counsel to senior executives, directors, and managers in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, healthcare corporate transactional work, including M&A and commercial real estate, operational issues, regulatory and transactional matters, claims management, and any proceedings and/or malpractice litigation by and against Epiphany Dermatology and its subsidiaries.
Epiphany Dermatology is a full-service general dermatology and skin cancer practice. The company was founded in late 2014 with the goal of improving access to high quality patient care. Epiphany provides general dermatology, skin cancer care, Mohs surgery, cosmetic services, and additional dermatologic services. Epiphany raises the standard of dermatology care by making clinical excellence accessible to all patients, promptly and in a warm and inviting environment.
The U.S. dermatologist market, as measured by revenue, is estimated at $7.5 billion in 2020. It is a highly fragmented industry with a trend in consolidation expected to continue due to rising costs and complexity. There are an estimated 9,700 dermatology practices in the U.S., 48% of which include three or more physicians. There is expected to be increasing demand for dermatology services driven primarily rising occurrence of skin cancer and the aging U.S. population. The shortage of dermatologists in the foreseeable future creates a supply/demand imbalance. There is little competition from hospital acquirers for dermatology practices and the reimbursement environment is stable.
The Corporate Counsel will assist in addressing a full range of legal and compliance matters, including, but not limited to:
Human Resources – provide guidance to relevant labor and employment laws,
Medical Staff issues – ensure thorough and responsive communication with physicians and providers and, as directed, with regulatory bodies,
Operational - assist the COO, CMO and Market Medical Directors with operational matters, patient care issues, and
Address and analyze fraud and abuse issues or other compliance concerns.
Education, Licensure and Experience Requirements:
Graduate of an ABA-accredited Law School,
Health Law Certificate a plus,
Licensed in at least one jurisdiction, preferably TX, and
3-5 years’ experience in transactional legal practice, inclusive of diverse contracting and corporate governance and transactional experience.
