This is an opportunity for a skilled, practical, and collaborative attorney to play a meaningful role in complex renewable energy transactions. Working as part of a team in close collaboration with sales, development, technical, construction, and other professionals, the Corporate Counsel is an active and integral participant in the sales and development of sustainable energy solutions in the United States and Canada. Your busy days would include drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements (such as wind turbine supply and service agreements, EPC agreements, subcontracts, and project development agreements), interacting with internal stakeholders and colleagues around the world, advising on interesting legal issues, and managing outside counsel.
Draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements that accurately reflect the commercial and legal decisions and comply with company guidelines and preferences.
Effectively manage external counsel on fast-paced and demanding sales, service, and project development transactions.
Actively participate and play a leadership role where appropriate in internal review processes and compliance initiatives and issues.
Analyze complex situations and provide practical, timely, and accurate legal advice.
Work closely and effectively with General Counsel, senior management, other company lawyers and legal staff (including directing and coaching more junior lawyers), and employees of all levels and cultures.
Develop and implement programs to educate and train business teams on legal issues.
Develop and implement systems, processes, guidelines, and forms to increase the efficiency of the delivery of legal services.
Assist in setting and implementing strategic goals and tactics.
Perform other duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Law degree from an accredited law school, admission to state bar, and ability to practice law in Oregon.
At least seven years of experience practicing law.
Excellent judgment and analytical, negotiating, drafting, decision-making, and communication skills.
Focus on client service; willing and effective collaborator and teammate; ability to lead by influence.
Flexibility with travel based on company needs and objectives.
Ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders and become a trusted advisor.
Helpful but Not Required Experience
Experience with project development, project finance, or the following industries: energy; infrastructure; capital equipment; real estate; or construction.
Ability to effectively influence and communicate within all levels of a global organization, as well as with external customers.
Ability to excel in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
Ability to prioritize among competing urgent matters and allocate resources for maximum impact.
Ability to analyze complex problems and apply legal principles, facts and precedents to recommend adoption of an effective, practical and proper course of action.
