Our client, a prestigious Fortune 500 company, has engaged us on an exclusive basis to identify a health, environment, and safety (HES) compliance attorney with 5-10 years of practice experience.
The company places great emphasis on reducing its carbon footprint and is looking for a collaborative, creative and results-oriented attorney to help achieve its aggressive climate goals.
This position offers significant responsibility, a wide range of cutting-edge work, interaction with internal clients and management, and a collegial work environment.
The attorney hired will report to the Assistant General Counsel.
Essential Job Duties:
Serve as primary Legal point of contact for HES matters within Company’s Colorado and GOM oil and gas business units.
Responsible for emissions, species work, waste and water, and health and safety is desired.
Responsible for providing accurate, concise, highly responsive compliance advice in a professional manner to a diverse, cross-functional group of internal clients, including: business and operations managers.
Possess extensive experience dealing with local, state and federal agencies responsible for enforcing those laws.
Effectively and timely address both day-to-day environmental issues as well as support in the due diligence and auditing functions.
Self-starter, highly effective with minimal supervision.
Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Minimum 5-10 years of HES experience from a top tier law firm and/or in-house.
Strong experience with air issues mandatory.
Must have strong understanding of environmental issues and regulations affecting onshore operations in CO, NM, UT, WY and TX.
Ideal candidate will have onshore and offshore experience.
Knowledge of environmental, industrial health and safety statutes and regulations applicable to the oil and gas industry.
Knowledge of upstream and operational functions.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with senior commercial management.
Must be able to work independently and assume significant responsibility.
Must be member of a State Bar in good standing.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Must have strong academic credentials and a stable work history.
Some experience with environmental issues affecting offshore operations in the Gulf of Mexico.
Familiarity with state oil and gas regulations, e.g., Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, NM Oil Conservation Division, and Texas Railroad Commission
Must be willing to travel
