To further strategic goals, MTM is now seeking an accomplished and well-rounded General Counsel. As a key member of MTM’s executive leadership team, this role will provide legal counsel and related business advice on a wide range of strategic, tactical and operational issues, in addition to leading a high performing, effective legal team.
Reporting directly to MTM’s CEO, the ideal candidate will:
PROVIDE VISIONARY EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP: Serve as a key member of MTM’s senior leadership team and as a trusted advisor to MTM’s CEO. Actively participate in strategic planning and executive team decision making. Demonstrate the ability to proactively develop practical yet innovative solutions satisfying both MTM’s business and legal interests. Advise on all acquisition opportunities and best M&A strategy and lead by example with unreproachable ethical standards, high integrity, and great enthusiasm.
INSPIRE A HIGH-PERFORMING LEGAL TEAM: Lead a high performing team of seven in the Legal Department. Determine departmental build-out for internal legal team as best suited for MTM’s growth and business objectives. Manage legal department budget and work closely with CFO. Provide oversight and manage outside counsel.
ADVISE ON REGULATORY & COMPLIANCE MATTERS: Serve as the senior legal policy officer with primary responsibility for business and compliance review. Provide counsel on HIPAA, Medicare and Medicaid matters, and transit related regulations (FTA). Ensure adherence to all local, state and federal guidelines. Advise on labor and employment matters including unfair labor practice charges, grievances and arbitrations and all union relationships . Establish and implement best practices, policies, procedures across company to promote compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations.
OVERSEE CONTRACT REVIEW & NEGOTIATION: Provide contractual oversight of MTM client service agreements and proposals. Negotiate and draft MTM agreements with transportation providers, vendors, health plans, and government. Identify business and legal risks and provide solutions which balance legal issues and business objectives. Serve as an internal resource and proactively educate account managers and other team members on applicable HIPAA, Medicare and Medicaid issues.
OVERSEE LITIGATION MANAGEMENT: Advise company leadership and managers regarding litigation risks, litigation strategy and direction of settlement negotiations. Ensure that executives and managers are fully aware of legal ramifications of actions and decisions. Provide advice on controlling legal requirements and or precedents while providing legally sound, practical, results-oriented recommendations to resolve business challenges. Determine best law firm partners and engage fully in oversight of matters handled by outside counsel.
Minimum of 15-20+ years of progressive legal experience, gained through a combination of law firm and in-house counsel experience. Ideal candidates offer prior experience as a General Counsel or senior counsel in similarly sized or larger organization.
Prior knowledge and application of legal advice relating to the unique needs and regulations within the healthcare, transportation, and/or logistics industries is required.
Demonstrated ability to serve as trusted, strategic partner to CEO, senior leadership team and family owners. Exceptional communication skills and a willingness to educate and advise internal stakeholders within a rapidly growing organization.
Must possess a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and be a member in good standing with a state bar association.

MTM’s General Counsel must be based in corporate headquarters in St Louis (Chesterfield), Missouri. Relocation assistance available. Relocation would be expected upon hire.
