What You Will Do
As the Associate General Counsel, Real Estate you will work closely with ARA’s Asset and Portfolio Managers, engaging in frequent communication with senior management, and will be responsible for the oversight of legal issues surrounding the operation and asset management of the commercial real estate assets which are owned by the funds and separate accounts managed by ARA, including, but not limited to, contracts, leasing, litigation, assisted by outside counsel.
The assets are located throughout the United States and include office, multifamily, industrial and retail as well as hybrid debt, preferred equity, and other forms of debt-oriented structures. Based in ARA’s Los Angeles headquarters, Asset and Portfolio Managers in our various offices will look to you for practical advice and direction on various real estate-related legal matters that arise in connection with the institutional-quality office, industrial, retail, and multifamily assets managed by ARA.
You will be a crucial member of our legal team assisting with a wide variety of matters, including property management and leasing service agreements, other real estate-related contracts, managing and directing the work of outside counsel and establishing litigation strategy that may arise in connection with property management, leasing, tenant defaults, and evictions of tenants.
You have ten years’ experience or more in real estate related legal matters with demonstrating increased responsibilities over time, preferably in an in-house role within a professional services environment. A successful candidate has broad business experience and understands how legal decisions and actions are made in that context and thrives on challenge and significant responsibility and can take critical feedback and make it actionable.
This position requires a broad knowledge of all aspects of the ownership and operation of real estate assets which are institutional in character. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants broad-based experience and can add value from a business and legal standpoint to the successful implementation of the investment strategies that the firm is involved with, from core to value add and opportunistic investing.
