Overview: This is a key position implementing BISSELL’s patent and product liability reduction strategies requiring independent judgment, pragmatic advice, demonstrative business perspective, creative problem-solving abilities, and positive client relationships.
Company: BISSELL Homecare, Inc. is a global, privately owned, vacuum cleaner and floor care consumer products corporation headquartered in Walker, Michigan in Greater Grand Rapids. BISSELL is the brand and market share floorcare leader in North America and is growing globally. BISSELL develops, engineers, and markets, sells, and delivers deep-cleaning machines, carpet cleaners, steam and hard floor cleaners, sweepers, carpet and floor cleaning formulas, pet hair tools, mops, brooms and more for households worldwide. The Company was founded in 1876, when its founder, Melville R. Bissell, invented and patented a one of a kind sweeper.
Experience: Candidate must have a B.S. degree in engineering and an LLM or JD from an accredited law school, with at least three years of experience in design engineering and at least ten years’ experience in patent and intellectual property work in private legal practice or for another corporate law department. Experience in BISSELL technology areas are highly desirable, but analogous art is required at a minimum. A license to practice law in Michigan is required, as is registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
Compensation: Competitive base and bonus commensurate with experience.
