The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently to support the needs of the business while working closely with the EVP & General Counsel on Company matters of significant legal importance, including major litigation and acquisitions/divestitures, as well as providing general updates and ongoing communication regarding assigned activities. The position manages the Company’s Contracts Manager and Paralegal; also manages the assignment of work to one non-employee lawyer who provides services to FGX on a contract basis.
POSITION OF THE JOB IN THE ORGANIZATION
Reporting to: EVP, General Counsel
Scope: Local / Regional / Global
Responsible for supporting the General Counsel with the day-to-day legal activities of the Company, including but not limited to:
contract review, drafting, negotiation, and administration, including primary responsibility for management of the Company’s on-line contracts database;
intellectual property matters, including management of worldwide patent and trademark portfolio in cooperation with outside counsel;
support the Licensing Department in the drafting and negotiation of numerous brand licenses into FGX;
review of advertising and marketing materials, contests and website content;
risk management advice;
mergers and acquisitions activities; and
Regulatory compliance, including monitoring legislative changes.
Under the direction of the General Counsel, provide assistance and counsel to Company management and employees on legal matters and risks
Manage workflow, communications and related expenses
Support elements of the Legal Department budget
Manage two direct reports: one Contract Manager and one Paralegal; also manage the assignment of work to one non-employee lawyer who provides services on a contract basis
Solid general corporate legal background.
Understanding of intellectual property issues. Experience in the management of an intellectual property portfolio, including specifically the registration, maintenance and renewals of trademarks and patents is a plus.
Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast moving, complex environment
Strong collaborator and business partner – enables and facilitates the needs of the business and identify proactive solutions to challenging situations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization in addition to external customers
Well-diversified background with the acumen to contribute as the Company expands; international exposure a plus

Strong computer skills
Law degree from an accredited law school
Admission to a state bar
Minimum of 8 years of experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department; prior experience in an in-house Legal Department preferred.
