As Corporate Counsel - Product, you will partner with all departments from operations, business innovation, finance and compliance to proactively assess legal risks and advise on regulatory issues related to state by state licensed and bank sponsored products, as well as working closely with other members of our legal team and management across the organization to help grow the business in a consumer-focused manner. This role requires a self-motivated, commercially astute and collaborative individual who excels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and advise on the supervised lending laws in each applicable state, and assist in creating/modifying the company’s consumer facing documents and processes to comply with the applicable laws.
Support legal review, analysis and the business in supporting on-going bank partner relationships and operationalize potential new products.
Proactively monitors legislation regarding bank partnerships both federally and on a state level as well as legislative changes in each state in order to timely participate in the legislative lobbying process or adapt to potential changes in law.
Assist in managing legal and compliance efforts in the areas of consumer protection, data security and privacy.
Assist in developing, implementing and operating a compliance program to ensure adherence with each laws, regulations and audit program, currently and as they evolve with legislative changes.
Understand applicable company policies, procedures and other job-specific instructive documents and materials
Conduct business, perform job duties, and provide oversight to respective teams in a manner consistent with the requirements set forth in all company policies, procedures and other directives, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
Complete all compliance training assigned to them to understand the key provisions of law, regulation and internal policies and procedures applicable to their job duties, as well as the impact of non- compliance on the company’s reputation and success
Raise concerns about any practice(s) believed to be a violation of, or inconsistent with, company policies, procedures or other directives, or in violation of legal or regulatory requirements
Monitor processes and procedures to ensure safety and compliance

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
JD from a top law school and excellent academic credentials
5+ years of experience in practice, preferably including 2+ years in-house in a role involving significant product counseling in a fast-paced technology and/or highly-regulated industry environment
Member in good standing of the Illinois Bar or ability to wave in as in house corporate counsel
Regulatory experience in the consumer-facing industry, including expertise in applicable UDA(A)P, GLBA, FCRA, ETFA and ECOA preferred
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders
Interest in and knowledge of consumer services and current trends in the financial technology industry
Experience speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations and demonstrated group presentation skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to write clearly and effectively and to read and interpret written
