This G&S exclusive is often requested but rarely found. The Northern Virginia office of a global, publicly traded software company seeks to hire an accomplished government contracts attorney to serve in a newly created role—you would be the most senior government contracts attorney for this $9B company with 24,000 employees globally. This position is unique because instead of the typical profile of a GovCon lawyer with significant transactional drafting and negotiating expertise, our client seeks a highly skilled litigator with deep knowledge of government procurement fraud cases who is interested in using that background to serve as a senior advisor on all regulatory counseling and compliance matters for the company.
Overview of Role: In addition to developing and leading a team of 10 talented lawyers and legal support professionals, the Senior Director will have primary responsibility for staying on top of applicable laws, regulations and industry guidance that impact the company’s government business, as well as designing and implementing a best-in-class compliance program. You will advise clients at all levels of the government sales organization on matters affecting the business and support compliance initiatives by providing quarterly trainings and presentations on new and changing regulatory requirements. You will lead and/or help drive special projects in the Legal Department and larger strategic initiatives across the company.
Requirements of the Position:
A minimum of fifteen years’ government contracts experience with significant Federal/FAR (vs. state and local), procurement fraud, False Claims Act litigation, and GSA Audit expertise.
Experience leading and managing teams as a Partner or Counsel in a large firm with a leading Government Contracts Practice (defending clients in procurement fraud cases), a Senior Government Attorney at DOJ (prosecuting procurement fraud cases) or an Associate General Counsel in-house.
A proven record of success in building consensus, delivering difficult messages, and assisting in developing policies and procedures designed to enhance quality and manage risk.
A critical thinker who possesses excellent business sense and judgment.
Prior technology company industry experience (familiarity in the software space would be ideal).
**This dynamic, industry leader will allow you to blend your legal training with your desire to get “closer to the business.” Hours are predictable at 9am-6:30/7pm, and compensation includes base salary on the upper end of the in-house scale in the DMV, plus a performance-based bonus and equity grant.
