In this role you will be responsible for drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications in the United States and globally (in cooperation with local associates). You will be working very closely with Product Development and others in managing and protecting the company’s IP. This position is responsible for following patent law and practice in the US and in sharing information with the Nautilus senior leadership. You will also be the main point of contact for product groups and the Nautilus leadership team for patent infringement issues and questions, design-around projects, and supporting our anti-counterfeiting efforts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic review, development and management of patent portfolio.
Oversee patent preparation and prosecution process.
Participate in the invention identification and review process.
Work with business units to develop and implement IP strategies to support product development and out-bound and in-bound licensing programs.
Review and analyze third party IP portfolios and conduct patent validity and infringement analysis.
Oversee and manage IP litigation.
Manage and direct outside IP counsel.
Assist with IP due diligence efforts in connection with strategic alliances and potential acquisitions.
Provide counseling and training on IP-related matters to business units.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
JD degree required; BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science preferred.
Ideal candidate will have at least 4 years experience in patent work. engineering.
Demonstrated excellent technical writing skills.
The ideal candidate will have either passed the USPTO patent bar or be qualified for and willing to sit for the USPTO patent bar.
