CardWorks Servicing ("CWS") is one of the largest privately-held provider of outsourcing services for bankcard-related products to banks and non-bank lenders in North America. CWS offers management expertise across the credit spectrum and supports both MasterCard and Visa accounts as well as a variety of private label debit, credit, stored value, and customer bankcards.
The Assistant General Counsel, VP in our Legal Department is responsible for providing legal advice on behalf of CardWorks and its related companies, primarily CardWorks Servicing and Carson Smithfield. Frequent interaction with business leaders and internal departments focused on contract review, interpretation, drafting, and negotiation.
Responsible for managing a variety of commercial contracts, including reviewing, interpreting, drafting and negotiating
Perform research and provide legal advice to various lines of business as a member of the Legal Department
Collaborate with business leaders and internal departments to accomplish company objectives
May be called upon to interpret and advise on laws and regulation that impact consumer credit and collections
Participate in projects and initiatives to help identify and mitigate legal risk
Responsible for handling various task simultaneously on a routine business day
Provide guidance and direction to other team members as needed
Involved in the development of new policies and programs, staffing and training process, supervision of subordinates, research, preparation of presentation and reports
Coordinate and communicate with a large number of people to be aware of the progress in the departmental and organizational activities
Initiate projects on behalf of the department and organization
Manages legal aspect of policies, procedures and processes
Interacts with affiliates and clients as necessary
When assigned direct reports, additional responsibilities could include interviewing candidates, fostering a positive environment, providing guidance/direction including both positive and negative feedback, administering corrective action counseling up to and including termination as appropriate
Attend continuing legal education seminars to keep abreast of changes
Appropriately completes all directives issued by Sr. Management and apprise them of departmental information via frequent periodic reports and informal discussions

Education and Experience:
JD and licensed to practice law in the State of New York and in good standing
5+ years of legal/compliance related experience, preferably in financial services
Industry certification such as CRCM a plus
Strong experience drafting, reviewing and amending contracts

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
Ability to compose comprehensive and critical correspondence
Analyze data and compile and deliver comprehensive business presentations
