As a valued member of the Legal team, the Senior Counsel - Contracts will provide legal support to all North American business units on key commercial matters, focusing on continuously improving JELD-WEN’s contract practices, processes and templates. Responsibilities will include drafting and negotiating a broad array of commercial agreements (including supply, distribution, product development, licensing and confidentiality agreements), as well as playing an active role in supporting the business team to review and negotiate commercial agreements with respect to proposed transactions.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Draft and negotiate a broad array of commercial agreements including supply, distribution, product development, lease, licensing, real estate, and confidentiality agreements.
Provide guidance on contract structure and process, including identifying risks and proposing alternative solutions to mitigate risks involved in potential transactions.
Work collaboratively with other members of the fast-paced legal team. Work closely with business leaders and all functional groups across the organization, ensuring that legal advice and guidance are delivered in a manner that is timely, proactive, practical, and cost-effective and meets the highest legal, ethical, and professional standards.
Providing general legal guidance on other general commercial transactions and matters, as needed.
Employ standard work and processes to continually improve the contract management system.
Direct, monitor, and supervise outside counsel, as needed.

Education and Experience
Strong academic performance and J.D. from an accredited law school in the U.S.
Active member in good standing of a state bar association
Ability to travel
Minimum of seven years’ experience, at least three years’ experience working as an in-house commercial contracting attorney or in another challenging legal environment
Experience working directly with clients and autonomously drafting and negotiating a broad array of global commercial contracts
Functional proficiency in the following areas of law: commercial contracts, real estate, antitrust. M&A and/or public company experience a plus.
Experience managing external counsel, including project scoping and budgeting
