Penske Automotive Group, Inc. a $22B Fortune 200 global automotive retailer announces an outstanding opportunity to become a part of its corporate legal department. Headquartered in Bloomfield Hills, MI, this highly visible role may be officed Phoenix, AZ or San Diego, Santa Ana or Los Gatos, CA. This key role will primarily be responsible for managing all aspects of our California wage and hour compliance responsibilities, employment and consumer litigation for the Company’s automotive dealerships, including proactive counseling and compliance issues, and to oversee implementation of the California Privacy Act from a legal perspective.
Evaluate litigation and potential litigation matters
Review compensation plans for compliance; conduct pay audits as necessary
Select and work with outside counsel when applicable, controlling defense costs
Work directly with business principals to assess liability and advise of potential exposure
Develop and maintain constant communication with regional headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ and corporate office in Bloomfield Hills, MI
Report directly to General Counsel status and recommendations of pending matters
Ability to manage high-volume caseload is essential
Attend trials, mediations and depositions for key litigation matters
Manage attorney general complaints; subpoenas; and consumer claims
Assist in internal investigations
Coordinate employee training
Oversee compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act
Union management best practices
Interpersonal skills required to maintain field and corporate relations

Preserve the utmost quality of your work, attention to detail, and high productivity standards.
Accept constructive criticism and possess extensive organizational skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Applicant must have a JD degree from a top-tier accredited law school. Applicant must also have 3-5 years of experience in a law firm (employment law preferred) or in-house legal position. Relevant litigation experience: wage and hour, employment, labor, personal injury defense; consumer and direct client interaction/development skills. Industry experience preferred but not required
