Our client, a publicly traded asset management and development company with 30+ years of stability and growth in this region, provides real estate development, asset and property management services to institutional and private owners of real estate assets (primarily mixed-use and transit-oriented projects). They have requested our assistance in recruiting an accomplished real estate lawyer (7+ years’ experience) to serve as the primary lawyer on all mixed-use project development and finance matters.
Overview of Role: At our client’s NoVA headquarters, you will work alongside the Acquisitions, Finance, and Operations teams, as well as with institutional capital partners. You will take the lead negotiating and closing loans with national institutional lenders for construction and permanent financings and draft and negotiate purchase & sale agreements for projects, development related agreements (e.g., construction, engineering & architectural), operating agreements and joint ventures. You will also gain other substantive skills by supporting the General Counsel on project-related litigation and claims management, insurance and risk management issues, and corporate finance matters.
Requirements: The ability to take a mixed-use project from acquisition through entitlement, design, construction and financing; a strong business orientation and understanding of the financial implications in projects in order to prioritize risk and make both legal and economically driven recommendations; and strong communication skills with the ability to present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization.
Selling Points: This position will allow you to deepen your core expertise in real estate finance and project development, while working hand-in-glove with key business leads. You also will gain expertise in broader corporate matters, leading to enhanced marketability down the road. The General Counsel has been with the company for 20 years and is highly respected by the C-Suite executives.
