Who We Are Looking for
TDECU is looking for an experienced, highly motivated attorney to join our dynamic legal team. The Corporate Counsel will report to the Director, Associate General Counsel. In this role, the Corporate Counsel will provide support to the Director, Associate General Counsel and serve as a trusted advisor to all levels of personnel at TDECU. The ideal candidate will have: (1) experience representing financial institutions either in private practice or an in-house role; (2) familiarity with the state and federal regulatory framework within with financial institutions operate; (3) experience managing litigation from inception to completion, including gathering facts, assessing risks, managing insurance coverage, retaining and managing outside counsel, resolving cases and reporting on case status; (4) managing a company’s potential liabilities, including developing of policies and procedures; and (5) experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts. The ideal candidate must thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The ideal candidate will be expected to acquire an intimate understanding of TDECU’s organizational dynamics and business operations, build positive client relationships with diplomacy, have sound independent judgment and business acumen, and provide insightful, timely counsel to a wide range of business partners on a broad range of legal and business matters.
Minimum Required Experience:
JD from an accredited law school.
Admission to Texas bar OR be admitted to at least one U.S. state bar and be willing to become registered in-house counsel or licensed in Texas.
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at a law firm working on a wide range of corporate and business transactions and/or experience working in-house for a financial institution or other financial services company.
Prior in-house experience
Have some experience handling employment matters
Experience interfacing with state and federal regulators for financial institutions
Exposure to a wide range of legal issues and disciplines, ideally in a fast-paced, high-growth financial institution or other financial services company, including but not limited to: technology/software transactions, employment matters, M&A, promotional/advertising, regulatory compliance, intellectual property
Genuine interest in credit unions and advancing the credit union movement
