DEPT/LOCATION: Legal/West Los Angeles REPORTS TO: General Counsel and/or Assistant General Counsel
QUALIFICATIONS: • Member of the California Bar in good standing. • Strong academic credentials • Experience with healthcare companies preferred, but not required. • 8-15 years prior experience with litigation at a law firm or in-house counsel department. • Excellent reading, oral/written communication skills, negotiation skills and concise grammatical skills. • Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude. • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills. • Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, team-oriented and dynamic environment. • Ability to complete projects timely and accurately. • Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills. • Ability to interact and communicate diplomatically with corporate senior executives and staff. • Ability to work independently • Principled with good judgment, common sense, and high standards of ethics and loyalty.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide day to day advice on a broad range of employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, HR practices, payroll, performance management, and terminations. • Oversee employment litigation, including developing relationships, managing costs, and coordination with Company witnesses. Monitor workers compensation litigation. • Support the internal and external investigations of complaints concerning violations of Company policies, laws, and regulations. • Handle and respond to 3rd party subpoenas for employee records. • Participate in employment matters related to Company transactions, including due diligence and integration. • Draft and/or reviewing responses to various federal and state government agencies. • Help building and implement scalable, standard employment policies and programs that balance legal risk with business impact. • Work with the Company’s HR teams to handle and support compliance, employee issues, internal investigations, audits, pre-dispute conflicts, employment law claims, and arbitrations. • Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate employment-related agreements, including consulting, severance, incentive, non-compete, and confidentiality agreements. • Establish a rapport and working relationship with employees at all levels in order to act as a trusted advisor and encourage the proactive use of in-house legal counsel as a preventative measure for human resources issues. • Manage the work and expenditures for outside counsel to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of legal services. • Other duties as assigned.
