Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a Fortune 500 company headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, seeks an outstanding mid-level commercial attorney to join our Wichita-based team. Spirit AeroSystems, one of the world's largest aerostructure manufacturers (NYSE: SPR), has over 17,000 employees worldwide and annual revenue in excess of $7 billion. Spirit's U.S. manufacturing facilities are located in Kansas, Oklahoma, and North Carolina, with international manufacturing facilities in the U.K., France, and Malaysia.
Reporting to a Deputy General Counsel, this position is responsible for a variety of customer focused transactional and commercial matters. This individual must have significant experience drafting, reviewing, interpreting and negotiating commercial documents, as well as supporting disputes related to commercial matters. Some experience with government contracting is required, and international experience is preferred.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
Responsibility for all legal aspects of supporting assigned Spirit customers or internal business segments and functions.
Providing proactive day-to-day advice to business segment managers and their teams on a broad range of commercial matters, including U.S. and international transactional matters with customers and vendors.
Collaboration in the development of commercial strategies.
Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing commercial documents for business segments.
Partnering with non legal professionals on a diverse range of matters.
Fostering strong relationships and transparency with all stakeholders, developing an understanding of business segment operations, strategies and objectives to better serve their needs; as well as lending support to an exciting, sophisticated, fast-paced in-house legal department at a growing aerospace company.
Researching legal principles and precedents.
Consulting with outside counsel on legal strategies for particular issues.
Providing consultation to other members of the department on commercial transactional matters.
Assessing and developing strategies for effective risk mitigation.
Basic Qualifications and Work Experience:
Undergraduate and law degrees from top tier accredited schools required, as well as high academic standing.
Must be a current member in good standing of the Kansas Bar or have the ability to become licensed to practice law in Kansas within 6 months of employment.
5+ consecutive years as a licensed practicing attorney, the majority of such time in a major law firm, with a practice focus on commercial transactions. Some in-house experience preferred.

Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to perform efficiently and effectively on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Must be able to travel as required to meet client’s business and legal needs.
