The Counsel role supports senior attorneys in the Delaware North legal department. This role completes assigned projects and legal work independently, seeking input from senior attorneys where appropriate. Senior attorneys confidently delegate work to this role and provide high level review/guidance. This role also provides legal advice and service by combining skills in corporate law and sound business acumen, and takes the opportunity to work with unit management, functional management and subject matter experts.
Examples of work include:
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contract contracts of varying complexities. • Conducting research on multiple topics for a diverse set of businesses. • Assisting with legal department innovation and initiatives. • Demonstrating progression in drafting, spotting issues, seeing risks, and develops strategies to add value while mitigating risk.
Other responsibilities consist of the following:
• Working with unit management, functional management and subject matter experts by providing legal advice and service through skills in corporate law coupled with sound business acumen. • Spotting issues, seeing risks, and developing strategies to add value while mitigating risk. • Completing assigned projects and legal work independently, seeking input from senior attorneys where appropriate. Following standards and processes outlined by the organization and legal department to maintain budget and expense regulations. • Work product and ability to influence internal clients contributes to ensure compliance with laws, policies and regulations. • Conducting legal research on multiple legal topics for a diverse set of businesses. • Serving as a role model for junior attorneys and contributing to effective collaboration within the team to drive outstanding client service. • Driving a common understanding of business processes and expectations to ensure success. • Functioning effectively as an individual contributor and in a team environment. • Clarifying a common understanding of business processes and expectations to ensure success. • Serving as a trusted colleagues able to support decision making and sustainability of legal policy and regulatory decisions. • Collaborating with legal and business associates to assure high quality work product.
This position will be based out of Delaware North’s new global headquarters, a state-of-the-art, 12-story, mixed-use building in downtown Buffalo, N.Y. The headquarters facility, reflective of our values, integrates the latest advances in environmental, energy conservation and office design.
Law Degree from an accredited law school. Admission to NY Bar preferred with 5+ years’ legal experience as in-house counsel or large law firm environment. Skills in creative problem solving, time management, schedule flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, rapid analysis and comprehension, excellent understanding of basic business and personal computing technology, intense intellectual curiosity, good listener. Proficiency with all Microsoft Office Products. Preferred additional experience in business setting or with other relevant financial experience.
