ABOUT THE JOB
This role will work closely with a small internal legal team and the legal team at our parent company, Best Buy, to support the overall legal needs of the business. The Director of Legal will be primarily responsible for providing legal advice to the Company’s commercial business. This individual will be a valued member of the legal team and work with employees at all levels of the Company with the goal of assisting the Company achieve its goals.
Drafting, revising, reviewing, negotiating, and administering agreements and contracts on behalf of the Company (including, but not limited to marketing, vendor, service, manufacturing, non-disclosure, and software license agreements)
Providing day-to-day support on all legal matters related to the Company’s Lively Home product.
Reviewing advertising and marketing materials to ensure that they are in compliance with legal requirements
Advising executives within the company
Provide guidance and mentorship to paralegal and any junior members of the legal department
Researching and anticipating unique legal issues that could impact the company
Assist with M&A transactions
Other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor’s Degree and J.D. Degree from an ABA accredited institution required
Certification(s): Active membership in good standing of the State Bar of California (or eligible for immediate membership)
Minimum 5 years of legal experience including at least 2 years in a law firm required
Experience drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts for marketing services, NDAs, operational agreements, and other commercial contracts required
Prior experience proactively identifying and successfully handling potential legal issues in healthcare and/or technology industries preferred
Prior experience managing legal compliance is preferred
Knowledge of applicable legal concepts, practices and procedures across a broad range of areas
Able to identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents, present clear recommendations, and assure legal compliance
Able to deliver clear, business-oriented legal advice with limited supervision
Able to balance meeting business objectives/missions and protecting the company from risk
Enthusiastic to learn new areas of the law and committed to staying up to date on new laws
An excellent legal project manager able to manage outside counsel in areas that fall outside of legal expertise
Strong written and verbal communication skills, in plain English
Understanding of operational/organization needs
Problem solving and decision-making skills
Ability to appropriately balance business and legal risks
Team player with ability to develop positive working relationships with peers
Ability to deal with ambiguity and thrive in an environment where you need to pitch in and own outcomes
