Counsel will independently support multiple Company businesses and provide day-to-day management of a varied caseload, including general liability, product liability and toxic tort claims (including asbestos and silica mass tort litigation) in numerous jurisdictions, both state and federal. This will include regular communications with business personnel and insurance claim handlers; supervision of outside counsel; development and supervision of defense strategies; review of briefs and motions; determination of settlement value of cases; and establishment of case management protocols to efficiently direct outside counsel activities.
General counseling of businesses regarding product warnings and federal regulatory issues
Provide guidance and stewardship to different businesses regarding the manufacture, sale and handling of hazardous substances
Prompt review and processing of legal bills for counsel in assigned jurisdictions via e-billing systems
Analysis of, and reporting to management regarding, assigned matters; analysis of claim and expense data to assist in controlling outside counsel litigation costs
Skills and Requirements:
B.A. or B.S. degree and a JD degree + admission in good standing to a state bar, preferably Pennsylvania
A minimum of 5 years of experience defending product liability/mass tort cases; experience can be at a law firm or in-house. Experience managing other counsel, some experience defending asbestos cases, and experience with U.S. privacy law and/or EU GDPR would be a plus.
The successful candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills and be capable of working independently and providing advice and support to senior business personnel.
