This is a full-time, project regular position for an estimated duration of 24 months.
Southern California Edison’s Law Department is responsible for handling all legal issues affecting the utility. The Contracts and Intellectual Property section of the Law Department has an open position for a graduate of an accredited law school to assist the Senior Attorneys in the section with commercial contract negotiations, contract interpretation and management, and provide general advice and counsel to the Supply Management organization and other organizational units at SCE, including Information Technology and Cybersecurity, Transmission and Distribution, and Customer Service. The successful candidate will handle or assist in a wide range of procurement and other contract negotiations for the company and will report to a Director/Managing Attorney.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently, be attentive to detail, identify legal and business risks, draft contracts quickly and clearly, confidently negotiate with contract parties, and conduct research accurately. We also are seeking a candidate who has the ability to simultaneously manage a large variety of assignments, work quickly and effectively under pressure, and prioritize activities.
Reviewing, negotiating and drafting a wide variety of contracts including software licensing, software as a service, consulting, construction, general procurement and other agreements.
Advising internal client organizations regarding compliance with applicable regulations, laws and policies and identifying legal and business risks.
Interfacing with SCE personnel in other departments and external third parties to be able to understand and advise on complex legal, technical, and/or sensitive issues.
Contributing to cross-functional or departmental projects and teams.
Occasional legal research.
Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
License to practice law in California.
Strong academic credentials.
Experience with contract analysis, drafting and negotiation, preferably with some experience in intellectual property matters.
Experience interacting with non-lawyer, business and technical clients.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team including ability to promote positive cooperation within the legal team, with other Company personnel, and with outside counsel.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
This is a full-time, project regular position for an estimated duration of 24 months. This position is eligible for company benefits and incentives during the duration of the assignment.
