Johns Hopkins Health System is conducting a search for a healthcare privacy attorney to join their in-house legal team. This position provides legal advice with respect to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other regulations and advisories as they relate to privacy, security and electronic transactions.
With at least five (5) years of general healthcare law, three (3) or more advising on all aspects of regulations adopted under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, this Associate Senior Counsel: Privacy will be responsible for providing guidance on laws, regulations, and advisories on HIPAA, Red Flag regulations, substance abuse regulations, and other state and federal privacy laws and regulations impacting the healthcare industry.
Located in Baltimore, Maryland on the campus of the world renowned Johns Hopkins Academic Medical Center, this position offers a mid-level healthcare attorney the opportunity to expand their skills and enhance their experience at a distinguished organization during a time of growth, change, and innovation.
JD with a minimum five (5) + years of private practice &/or in-house healthcare experience with at least three (3) years advising on regulations adopted under HIPAA
Special skills and knowledge to include:
Detailed understanding of HIPAA privacy regulations, advisories, and other guidance in clinical, research, and business contexts
Experienced in reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating business associate agreements and other contracts in connection with privacy and security matters
Able to set up complex data sharing arrangements and research
Experience in best practices in the management of protected health information
Experience orchestrating investigations & response mitigation due to a breach of privacy or security
Involved in managing enterprise-wide privacy compliance \
Knowledge of federal, state, and local statues and regulation which affect privacy and confidentiality (preferred)
Highly developed analytical legal skills
The ability to manage effectively in a high volume environment
Competent in drafting documents of substantial complexity
Able to provide practical, focused business advice
Excellent communications skills with the ability to relate effectively to the various constituencies of Johns Hopkins Medicine
