OVERVIEW Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) serves three primary roles: it is the world’s leading presenter of superb artistic programming, is a national leader in arts education and community relations, and functions as the manager of the Lincoln Center campus, which is home to 11 separate resident organizations. LCPA presents over 350 performances annually throughout our different performance series including American Songbook, Great Performers, Live From Lincoln Center, Mostly Mozart Festival, Midsummer Night Swing, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and White Light Festival.
In addition, LCPA supports an array of programs for Lincoln Center Education including its community and family programming. Further, LCPA supports initiatives related to events at the David Rubenstein Atrium, LC Kids, as well as numerous key institutional initiatives and projects.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, the Senior Counsel provides legal counsel in support of all aspects of the organization’s legal affairs in furtherance of the organization’s cultural and educational mission.
Serving as legal advisor on a broad range of performing arts and education-related matters, with a focus on artistic programming/production, media, marketing, fundraising, and intellectual property matters.
Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on a wide variety of contracts to ensure that the best interests of the organization are served, including contracts involving artists, co-productions, licensing, artistic commissions, educational programs, consultants, contractors, rentals, sponsorships, information technology, privacy, media production, and other matters within the core mission and ancillary businesses of the organization.
Serving as a resource for other legal areas including employment, non-profit law, company policies, tax, finance, real estate, and premises-related legal issues.
Working collaboratively with the other members of the Legal team, non-legal staff and Lincoln Center community members to meet the diversified legal needs of a complex, multi-faceted organization.
QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate is an analytical thinker, team player and resourceful problem solver, with superb legal skills and judgment, excellent writing and communications skills, and a desire to learn new areas of the law.
JD, Member of NY State Bar
5+ years of legal experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
Non-profit and/or in-house experience is a plus
Appreciation for the arts is a plus
