Lowe’s seeks a creative, solutions-minded candidate to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment for a role that will support critical technology work streams to drive the company’s continued success as an omni-channel retailer. The primary purpose of this role is to identify legal risks and execute a mitigation plan by understanding legal issues and translating them into easily understood and practical legal advice and counsel to the company’s Technology organization. This includes responsibility for negotiating, drafting and overseeing a variety of complex and cutting-edge technology matters and agreements. The position will: review, draft, negotiate and provide business-focused legal advice with respect to digital and technology transactions (SaaS, software license, and software/application development agreements); establish and update technology agreement forms; conduct legal research; provide legal advice on routine issues impacting the business; and analyze and summarize routine legal documents. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of relevant experience, specific experience providing legal support to clients in the fast-moving technology space, and is an attorney who understands how to help balance business objectives and legal risks under tight deadlines.
Provides legal counsel and negotiation of contracts related to technology, including privacy and data protection, information management, technology outsourcing and procurement, software licensing, cloud service providers and data/services hosted by third parties, software development, and data and analytics
Performs day to day core tasks on an independent basis, with a medium level of oversight by a supervisor at the Director level and/or assistance from other lawyers in Director level positions
Recommends and provides legal advice and support to the company’s Technology organization in developing routine policy and procedural improvements, consulting the business on issues related to technology, and providing practical advice in response to rapidly changing conditions
Assists in preparing and delivering trainings and presentations to clients, business partners, or other members of the Legal Department on legal matters
Delivers work product within business constraints in a high-volume, fast-paced and demanding environment while balancing competing client requests.
Occasionally works with outside legal counsel and orchestrates legal processes on behalf of the company in liaison with outside counsel at the direction of Senior Counsel, Assistant General Counsel and executive leadership
Conducts legal research and applies research to facts and is able to communicate the analysis in an easily understood work product to leadership
Identifies legal risks and designs plans to mitigate and prevent routine legal risks
Assists with developing, updating and maintaining contracting templates
Assists with collaboration and support for complex projects in the Legal Department (i.e. attorneys across the Legal Department in order to provide meaningful and practical advice and recommendations to clients)
Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in law firm, corporate legal department setting, or legal field
Active state bar member in good standing of at least one U.S. jurisdiction
Exceptional oral and written communications, presentation, interpersonal and facilitation skills. Must interact confidently, persuasively, and diplomatically with all levels of the organization.
Experience with public company legal issues, processes and procedures
Demonstrated proficiency in legal technology functional area
