Provides legal advice on a range of matters, identifies potential liability, assesses and provides recommendations for minimizing and preventing risk, develops and manages strategy, while minimizing costs. Provides in-house training, participates in the development of support staff and the performance of both support staff and outside counsel, and while building a diverse and highly effective legal team.
Advise HR on employment related matters, including but not limited to hiring, termination issues, reductions in force, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, reasonable accommodations, leave of absences, wage and hours issues and employee benefits.
Advise on emerging legislative and regulatory changes affecting employment law and employee benefits.
Draft and enforce internal policies and procedures related to employment issues to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and legal standards.
Develop legal training on a wide variety of employment law matters.
Investigate compliance hotline complaints alleging violation of company policies.
Provide support on compensation, benefits, ERISA and immigration matters.
Handle and manage employment litigation as well as federal and state administrative hearings and retain outside counsel, where appropriate.
Respond to attorney letters, complaints and claims involving employment concerns.
Support risk management on employee related matters such as worker’s compensation claims, company-related vehicle accidents and insurance claims.
Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school, admission to Bar of at least one state and In-House Bar of New Jersey.
Extensive knowledge in the substantive areas for which the incumbent is responsible.
Excellent written and oral communication, problem solving, analytical, organizational and negotiating skills with demonstrated ability to achieve results.
Relevant experience with demonstrated success in corporate law department, law firm or government practice.
Excellent business judgment, agility, and ability to employ strategic thinking.
Team-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal skills, collaborative approach, and ability to provide cross-functional integration.
Education Required: Juris Doctorate plus 8 to 10 years of related experience
Experience: Preferred background in automotive or other highly regulated industry.
