Provides legal advice and representation to the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, its divisions and subsidiary boards, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the General Counsel.
Provides specialized expertise in particular legal practice areas such as nonprofit, contract, employment and/or tax law.
Provides corporate legal advice and representation to all divisions, programs and subsidiary boards of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia as assigned by General Counsel.
Assists in the review and organization of resolutions, by-laws, and other corporate documents for the Board of Managers and subsidiary boards.
Provides legal assistance to ACCG’s Retirement Services, Insurance Department and Financial Services staff.
Provides legal support to the subsidiary boards created and served by ACCG under the supervision of General Counsel.
Reviews, negotiates, and/or drafts contracts for Association and subsidiary boards.
Assists in the implementation and maintenance of ACCG’s contract management system.
Interprets contract provisions for ACCG staff.
Provides legal research on broad range of topics that arise in the Association’s provision of insurance, retirement and financial services.
Drafts and/or reviews policies and procedures for ACCG and its subsidiary boards.
Reviews, analyzes and assists legislative staff with legislation related to ACCG and its subsidiary boards.
Operates a variety of standard office equipment.
Supports the overall organization by executing the directives as set forth by the Association.
Provides and exhibits outstanding customer service, teamwork, and organizational commitment.
May require overnight travel.
Education and Experience:
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school (required) and three to five years of experience in nonprofit law or transactional law, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of contracts, administrative processes, employment law, federal tax law, nonprofit law and transactional law.
Knowledge of the Association's programs, procedures, goals and objectives.
Ability to simplify and clearly explain complicated issues in writing and orally; excellent grammatical skills.
Solid foundation in fundamental legal theories; ability to identify problems and legal issues; strong research skills; good negotiating and consensus building skills.
Ability to manage time and work independently in a fast-paced environment, while paying close attention to details; strong organizational skills.
Understanding of and ability to apply the State Bar of Georgia’s ethics and disciplinary rules; knowledge of legal office procedures and practices.
Skill in the use of standard office software applications, specifically Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
Ability to plan, organize and direct effective legal assistance to the association’s programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, elected and appointed officials, local government staff, consultants, media representatives and the general public.
Possession of appropriate licensure from the State Bar of Georgia.
Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia.
Additional Salary Information: Starting salary discussions will begin in the range of $70,000 per year.
ACCG is a nonprofit instrumentality of Georgia’s county governments.
