Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group has an immediate need for a Corporate Counsel to join our clients established, and growing legal team.
Provide primary legal support to U.S and Caribbean teams signing and managing key merchant and other relationships. Partner with the client management and sales teams in designing and implementing sound business solutions that are intended to enhance the value of Company services.
Strategically collaborate across all levels of the organization in negotiating merchant, sponsorship, third party sales, and processor agreements in support of these relationships to ensure all legal issues are identified, evaluated, and managed across the organization. This support includes all aspect of these commercial agreements, including Card acceptance, marketing and sponsorship deals, and related business relationships and issues.
Provide legal advice and transactional guidance on a wide range of commercial transactions and engagements with a particular focus on payment processing and merchant acquiring. Collaborate in negotiating merchant agreements with these entities and supporting operational issues, especially payment processing issues (e.g., merchant dispute resolution, fraud/data security, chargebacks), arising from these relationships.
Support the identification and implementation of process improvements to streamline operational and marketing processes.
Participate in a small team of seasoned attorneys and legal managers, offering thought leadership for cross-subject matter practice group issues and projects.
Bachelor’s degree & J.D.
Admitted to New York Bar or eligibility to do so.
4+ years of relevant legal experience.
Strong transactional background with experience drafting and negotiating contracts and a variety of complex commercial agreements.
Practical experience in dealing with business-level implications of merchant processing and developing and marketing financial products and services.
Experience or demonstrated ability for understanding operational details of business systems and process and related compliance and regulatory (e.g., KYC, UDAAP, privacy) impacts.
Ability to understand and integrate details of business operational and systems environment in applying legal and policy requirements.
Experience in leading and facilitating change.
Ability to resolve novel issues with a resourceful, “can-do” attitude, and ability to handle multiple tasks, take on new responsibilities and prioritize work in a dynamic, deadline-intensive environment; experience in leading and facilitating change.
Ability to gain credibility, manage expectations, and develop strong working relationships with colleagues and business clients; convey clear advice to clients and provide pro-active, creative, and business oriented solutions; prioritize tasks and manage multiple competing projects within tight deadlines; work well in cross-functional team settings; and manage ambiguity well.
High energy, team-oriented, self-starter, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong work ethic and personal accountability.
Spanish language a plus.
