The Corporate Attorney will assist in various matters involving the Company’s legal affairs, including intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, corporate securities, real estate, litigation and employment law, as well as privacy and risk management matters.
Draft and review sales and business contracts and agreements
Provide counsel and advice on a broad range of corporate legal matters
Provide legal counsel on issues arising from actual or anticipated lawsuits
Anticipate and guard against legal risks facing the company
Recommend and assist with the development of company policy and position on legal issues
Conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal issues
Represent the company or its officials in various legal proceedings
Prepare legal pleadings, motions, discovery, and stipulations, etc.
Write, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents
Assist with the development of company policies relating to legal matters
Direct and manage outside counsel as needed
This position will not manage direct reports.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, organizational and time management skills, and the ability to interact with and advise business people and occasionally direct/manage outside counsel
Proven ability to pick up issues quickly, to articulate complex matters clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing
Detail-oriented and able to work independently in an unstructured and fast-paced environment
Strong planning, problem-solving and analytical skills
Impeccable ethics and professional business demeanor
Excellent computer skills and proficient in desktop applications, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, as well as internet research
Required Education and/or Experience
Candidates must have a JD degree from an accredited law school and must be admitted to practice law (ideally in Iowa)
Two years of experience in a wide range of legal matters
Experience with a large law firm and/or inhouse corporate legal department preferred
Material and Equipment Directly Used
Requires the use of office equipment, including desktop or laptop computer with docking station, monitor, keyboard and mouse, fax, copier, and telephone.
Working Environment/Physical Activities
Office environment; some travel may be required. Travel requires the ability to transport a laptop and peripherals and handheld device.
