Hallmark's legal division is seeking an attorney with expertise in employment counseling and litigation to join our team. We support the core businesses of Hallmark Cards, Incorporated and its foreign and domestic subsidiaries, and are valued business partners in helping both grow and protect our businesses. The Assistant General Counsel - Employment Law will report to the Associate General Counsel - Employment Law, and works on a variety of legal matters. Specific responsibilities include:
Provides in-house legal services and support to all areas of the company, including its foreign and domestic subsidiaries and affiliates.
Provides legal advice to Human Resources representatives, managers, and the company nurses and doctor on a wide range of employment matters.
Investigates, responds to, and resolves employment claims through Hallmark’s internal dispute program (which culminates in binding arbitration), and/or that have been filed with federal and state agencies or courts.
Partners with and manages outside counsel in appropriate situations.
Stays informed of new legislation or requirements, and proactively works to ensure compliance.
Educates business partners through presentations and advice in an effort to mitigate legal risks.
Provides advice on reorganizations, including conducting adverse impact analyses and preparing severance-related documents.
Is knowledgeable of e-discovery issues and requirements, and proactively works to ensure compliance with such requirements.
Provides legal advice on Executive Order 11246, the company’s affirmative action plans, pay equity/audits, and OFCCP audits.
Our ideal candidate should have strong client partnering and interpersonal leadership skills as well as excellent technical legal skills.
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited U.S. law school
Admitted to the Bar
Licensed to practice law in Missouri
Minimum seven years’ experience working with Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA and FLSA
Minimum of seven years’ experience with a law firm or company law department
Minimum of seven years’ experience in employment counseling and employment litigation/arbitration
General litigation experience strongly preferred
Strong ability to understand the business needs of internal clients and offer clear, actionable and effective advice
Strong and effective business and legal partnering (internal and external) skills
Sound business and legal judgment and demonstrates the highest degree of professionalism
Ability to quickly and effectively manage a variety of assignments, under time constraints; effectively prioritize workload based on business needs and company's strategic goals
High level of personal accountability, self motivation, results orientation and work ethic. Is an agile learner and change agent.
