Honda North America, Inc. (HNA) is seeking applicants for a Tax & Utility Attorney. Position will advise Honda North America and its affiliate companies on a range of tax matters, such as State & Local, Corporate Activity (CAT) Tax, payroll, and on tax related audits. Attend meetings of Ohio Manufacturer’s Association (OMA) Tax Committee, Ohio Chamber of Commerce, Council on State Taxation (COST), and other groups affecting Honda’s tax policy. Coordinate efforts for multiple U.S. Honda locations related to State & Local Tax Incentives programs (support application, tracking, provide legal advice, coordinate outside counsel and external incentive consultants, monitor and communicate new opportunities). Support projects related to Gas, Electric & other utilities (e.g., wind, solar, etc.). Intervene and monitor utilities cases and coordinate external utilities counsel. Attend OMA Energy Group & PUCO Meetings. Provide benefits plan advice, compliance, plan drafting, responses to ERISA records requests, ERISA claims, advise 401(k) & Pension Committees, monitor and communicate law changes, conduct training, support benefits audits, benefits litigation, and filing of various governmental forms. Contract questions, issues, negotiation, drafting, consulting with and supporting attorneys and paralegals on issues related to above areas.

The preferred candidate will have knowledge of Tax Laws (e.g., State & Local Taxation, Tax Incentives, ERISA & Benefits Tax Laws) preferred. Knowledge of laws related to Utilities desired. Minimum of three years experience handling tax, employee benefits, and/or utility related matters for a law firm, government agency, or as in-house counsel. Juris Doctorate degree required. Ability and willingness to obtain Ohio law practice licensure.
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
