Job overview and responsibilities
The Counsel - Labor and Employment position will serve as a Labor and Employment Law attorney for United's in-house legal department. This position provides legal counsel, guidance and conducts research as needed for all aspects of federal, state and local labor and employment/labor laws and regulations. The position is responsible for managing and supporting employment and labor litigation, while also supporting Senior Managing Counsel and Deputy General Counsel on employment/labor related matters.
Provide legal counsel and guidance and conduct research as needed for Company on all aspects of Federal, State and local employment and labor laws and regulations
Assist in development and implementation of employment and labor-related company policies and programs
Handle major, complex and/or sensitive projects or issues with minimal review
Manage and direct outside counsel, including taking the lead in developing strategy and tactics
Respond to Federal and State discrimination charges and investigations
Handle smaller employment litigation matters
Conduct training and presentations on various employment law issues of legal significance in various forums
Bachelor’s Degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree
Extensive knowledge of employment law and some labor law
Ability to work in a fast pace, high demand environment
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and be committed to providing exemplary customer service to leadership of all levels Must be a results-oriented self-starter who can work both independently and on a team"
Significant counseling experience on all aspects of Federal and State EEO statutes (Title VII, ADA, ADEA), as well as FMLA and wage and hour law
