While adhering to the Company standards, this key member of the Company’s legal team will be responsible for providing legal services to the Company as requested and needed, with a specific emphasis and responsibility for supporting all employment law matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
Assist the Director, Legal Affairs and Litigation (or related position) with managing all litigation claims and disputes (including potential litigation and/or administrative agency actions) involving employment law claims.
Provide legal advice and counsel to key partners in Human Resources and other cross-functional positions regarding diversity, wage and hour issues, equal pay, employee benefits, leaves of absence and accommodations, investigations, and other substantive employment law areas.
Review, analyze, and investigate any and all employment related administrative charges files against the Company and prepare responses to same when appropriate.
Manage and carry out special projects as needed, providing research, reporting, advice, and other related tasks as required in support of such special projects.
Stay current on relevant employment law legal updates, including case law and legislation, and disseminate information to relevant team members quickly and effectively.
Prepare for and conduct trainings on employment law (and related) topics including but not limited to sexual harassment training.
Respond to subpoenas for employee records.
Draft, analyze and edit employment related documents and processes.
Assist in managing internal/external legal resources to efficiently reduce outside counsel expenses, including handling employment law matters before litigation ensues.
Oversee tracking and reporting on progress of projects under your responsibility for reporting to supervisor.
Supervise and effectively manage paralegal(s) and/or other non-attorney team members as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
JD from a top tier law school; MBA is a plus.
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a large law firm and/or in-house.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
California Bar or admission as Registered In-House Counsel required.
Experience in the hospitality industry preferred.
Outstanding organizational, writing, research, and communication (oral and written) skills required. Must be able to speak, understand, read and write English. Must have excellent English grammar skills, including punctuation, spelling, style, etc.
Must demonstrate integrity, commitment to compliance, and unwavering ethics. Must have a deep appreciation for and understanding of the need for confidentiality as to all legal department matters. Must exercise strong, sound judgment in balancing competing projects and sensitivity to competing demands faced by colleagues. Must have the ability to prioritize competing projects in a fast-paced environment.
