The associate in this role will serve as the primary legal advisor to MetLife’s Reinsurance Department, which manages MetLife’s domestic and international reinsurance operations for all MetLife lines of business. An experienced reinsurance attorney, the associate will draft and negotiate reinsurance agreements on behalf of MetLife and will provide advice on structuring reinsurance for risk management, capital financing and M&A-related activities. The position is based in New York City and travel will occasionally be required.
Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and bar admission required with a minimum of five years of relevant legal experience, preferably with a strong record of in-house success
Deep knowledge of the reinsurance industry, agreements, regulations and best practices, including the international reinsurance market and captive reinsurance arrangements
Extensive experience drafting and negotiating reinsurance treaties and related documentation
Ability to handle complex legal matters with minimal oversight while escalating significant issues in a timely fashion
Sound judgment, a high degree of professionalism, an ability to prioritize and adhere to deadlines, and leadership competencies to motivate, train and develop others
