This position will function as Senior Counsel, Legal and Business affairs for Major League Baseball (MLB) primarily in the area of global media transactions, with a focus on domestic and international media partnerships, including television, radio and digital media.
Report to Senior Vice President, General Counsel, MLB Advanced Media
Negotiate, structure and draft various agreements with MLB’s domestic and international media partners, including television, radio and digital media.
Provide legal analysis and advice to internal clients with respect to domestic and international television, radio and digital media distribution agreements; production, programming, footage and other content licensing agreements; and emerging issues in evolving technologies and social media
Conduct league review of MLB team local television and radio agreements
Assist in the formulation of media policies applicable to MLB teams and league partners
Support and coordinate with other legal and business groups
At least eight years of related practice in a corporate legal department and/or law firm
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working for rightsholders, networks or distributors
Strong command of U.S. Copyright, trademark, right of publicity, false advertising and communications law
Advanced contract drafting, negotiation and problem-solving skills
Exceptional written and oral business communication skills
Organizational and project management competence necessary to support and advise business units and ensure projects are completed in a timely manner
Ability to make timely, nuanced recommendations for business decisions based on reasoned legal analysis and the strategic objectives of the organization
Must work effectively in a fast-paced environment, interacting regularly with senior management and others across the organization, and be able to balance and prioritize multiple projects and engage with multiple stakeholders
Law degree from a top tier law school and member of New York State Bar in good standing
