Our client, a dynamic technology driven Fortune 500 company, is seeking an experienced attorney who will be responsible for legal activities in South America. This position, to be based in Brazil, provides general commercial, corporate governance and compliance advice to the regional businesses, manages outside counsel, and is a member of the regional business leadership teams.
Responsibilities for this role will include:
Resolve complex legal matters (compliance, commercial, regulatory, litigation, labor, real estate, and other fields)
Advise on critical strategic matters, such as risks and opportunities posed by potential transactions
Negotiate, review and draft a broad range of commercial agreements, including supply and sales agreements, joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions.
Drive culture of compliance, including training, and have oversight for compliance matters in the region.
Identify and manage outside counsel and secondments
Support government relations and key business pursuits as needed
Candidates must have the following qualifications in order to be considered:
-Ten to twenty years of strong, broad based experience with a major law firm and large corporation
-Experience resolving legally complex matters (compliance, commercial, regulatory, litigation, labor, real estate, and other fields)
-Experience in internal investigations
-Experience in competition and antitrust compliance
-Experience in labor disputes
-Must speak Spanish and Portuguese
-Excellent oral and written communications.
-Must be a doer, willing to roll up their sleeves and dig into issues at all levels in the organization.
-Exceptional business acumen as well as legal expertise.
