Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC is the largest provider of dredging services in the United States and the only U.S. dredging company with significant international operations. Headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, GLDD is currently seeking an Assistant General Counsel to support the dredging business unit and report to the Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer. This attorney must be a self-starter capable of accepting responsibility for providing proactive legal advice and counsel in support of internal legal functions.
Assist with a wide range of projects and activities and internal legal functions.
Review domestic and international dredging contracts prior to tender, participating with other attorneys and contract manager to provide advice and analysis to the dredging business unit.
Draft and negotiate contracts for services, supplies and charters in support of dredging operations.
Develop a thorough understanding of U.S. Admiralty Law and the Jones Act.
Identify and analyze potential legal claims and work with dredging business unit to provide risk assessments and to reduce litigation exposure.
Monitor FCPA, U.S. antiboycott and other international law compliance.
Assist in developing, implementing, improving and reviewing legal compliance projects and training.
Keep management up to speed on significant decisions, legislation and governmental regulatory rulings that may affect dredging operations.
Lead or provide advice and guidance on internal investigations.
Earn the confidence and trust of operations executives and managers.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
Proven operator in a fast-paced, team environment and able to act as a lead as required

Bachelor’s degree (4 year) from an accredited four-year college or university.
J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and Bar admission.
3 to 5 years of law firm or in-house legal experience, preferably in a maritime, construction or asset-intensive business.
