The Cummins Legal function provides a full range of legal services in support of Cummins Inc. and its consolidated businesses. Our United States staff is located in Columbus and Indianapolis, IN. We also have international legal offices located in the United Kingdom, India, Australia, Brazil, China and Mexico and Africa. Through these various offices, we are able to support our businesses throughout the world.
This is an exciting opportunitybased in Indianapolis, IN, with some travel to Columbus, IN, and offers diverse in-house litigation related responsibilities.
Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Responsible for handling and obtaining results in a variety of complex litigation and risk mitigation matters and projects across a wide range of businesses, geographic regions and corporate functions while working with a global team.
Acts as trusted advisor for mid to high level management; has strong grasp of business environment; effectively partners with clients to identify and design needed improvements; provides legal as well as practical advice within the appropriate business context; understands and manages client expectations
Assists in development of legal strategies for business and shares in management of outside counsel relationships
May influence or contribute to overall objectives and goals of organization
Demonstrates specialization proficiency in one or more areas of law, specialty or function; acts as a resource to others
Manages/supervises large and/or complex cases and matters worldwide
Responsible for project and matter management with limited supervision; exercises independent judgment
Provides support and leadership in improvement and issue-resolution projects in both the Legal function and within the business units.
Recognized as a developing expert in the area of litigation
Acts as trusted advisor to management on legal rights and obligations;has strong grasp of business environment; effectively partners with clients to identify and design needed improvements; provides legal as well as practical advice within the appropriate business context; understands and manages stakeholder expectations
Researches, evaluates and advises management and other attorneys on recent or prospective changes in laws and regulations.
Instructs and supervises outside counsel and consultants as needed
Effectively influences and maintains open, collaborative relationships with clients, other business partners and outside stakeholders.
May supervise and/or mentor one or more junior lawyers, paralegals or administrative assistants.
High level technical legal skills required

Demonstrates excellent communication skills
1stchair trial experience strongly preferred
6-8 years of experienceof substantive litigation practice either in private practice or in-house with a corporation.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
License to practice in Indiana or other jurisdiction
Compensation and Benefits
Base annual salary commensurate with experience plus annual variable compensation. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
