Farm Credit Mid-America is seeking an experienced attorney focused primarily on partnering with its mortgage loan origination and servicing business.
The Successful Candidate For This Position Will:
Support all aspects of consumer mortgage loan origination and servicing, especially focusing on compliance with all laws and regulations that impact the company’s consumer mortgage products and processes.
Conduct the highest level of legal analysis, as well as to consult with and assist both the Compliance Department and the business unit as they incorporate legal and regulatory compliance processes and best practices into business operations.
Advise the Chief Compliance Officer in improving processes and systems to support organizational compliance.
Monitor for and respond to applicable changes in the internal and external compliance environment.
Advise the Chief Compliance Officer in creating and delivering organization-wide compliance training and advising on corrective action efforts when necessary.
Coordinate with all applicable internal and external stakeholders.
Work with internal and external audit examiners on regulatory exams.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
At least 5 years of experience with an emphasis on consumer finance and/or residential mortgage banking; in-house experience with a commercial bank highly preferred.
Significant experience and a broad working knowledge of federal and state (IN, KY, OH, TN) consumer finance and mortgage lending laws, specifically federal laws and regulations pertaining to the origination and servicing of residential mortgage loans, including but not limited to TILA, RESPA, HMDA, ECOA, FCRA, SAFE Act, Fair Lending and CFPB rules and regulations.
Thorough understanding of administrative rulemaking and governance process, including Farm Credit Administration (FCA) and/or CFPB.
Experience with default servicing preferred, including collection and foreclosure processes.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to anticipate and meet the needs of a sophisticated business and a growing business team.
Superior organizational skills.
Excellent client service skills, a commitment to team work and a professional demeanor.
A J.D. degree required from an ABA accredited law school, current license to practice law in a US state jurisdiction and ability to gain admission to the Kentucky Bar.
Experience with commercial contract review, management processes and building or expanding a regulatory compliance program is a plus.
The successful candidate will be a team player with a collaborative attitude, and the ability to lead significant cross-functional projects and become a valued business partner by creating and maintaining trusting relationships with business units, senior leaders and key internal and external stakeholders.
Education and Experience
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree and current membership in a state bar, in good standing. Five (5) or more years of legal practice, with progressive development of expertise in one or more desired legal subject matter areas in a private practice, government, or in-house setting. Licensed by and/or admitted to practice law in the state of Kentucky, or capable of obtaining KY admission within a reasonable time following hire.
Associate General Counsel
Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree and current membership in a state bar, in good standing. At least eight (8) or more years of legal practice with progressive development of expertise in one or more desired legal subject matter areas in a private practice, government, or in-house setting. Experience supervising or overseeing the work of other legal personnel. Demonstrated ability to own/lead a subject matter area independently. Licensed by and/or admitted to practice law in the state of Kentucky, or capable of obtaining KY admission within a reasonable time following hire.
